We were simply delighted with this project. Ryan of Moody Landscape Architecture conceived and created a multifunctional space in our tiny backyard that allows us to entertain or simply relax. His design reclaimed a space that was formerly overgrown and overrun with mosquitoes. Our primary goals were to have a seating area, a built-in grill and to address drainage issues and security/lighting issues. Ryan achieved all this and more. We interviewed three different firms for this project and chose Ryan based on his creativity, his quick understanding of our style, his attention to detail and his easygoing manner. In fact, while we love his work product (we couldn't be happier with our back yard), what really set Ryan apart was the ease of interaction that we had with him. He was responsive, provided excellent suggestions and feedback to our questions, monitored the project closely once construction got underway, and worked really well with our contractor. He's an easygoing, extremely nice guy, who cares a lot about his work and his clients.  Our project has been completed for almost a year and we're thrilled with it. We recommended Ryan to one of our friends who then hired him.  She is almost finished with her back yard and had been equally thrilled.

I have worked with Moody Landscape Architecture on many projects over the last several years. The projects have ranged from $5,000 to $200,000 and the same level of commitment and care is given to all the projects. As a builder it is easy to work with them to build a great project. All the Clients I have in common have always spoken highly of Moody Landscape Architecture as do I.

We had a terrific experience with Ryan.  We called him because our garden was out of control, and he designed an unbelievably beautiful, functional space that is also low-maintenance enough to fit our busy lifestyle.  He is extremely professional and talented, and took the time to explain his vision, produced detailed sketches and provided pictures of the types of plants he planned to install, got estimates from contractors and hired one to take care of the installation (Till Gardens, who likewise did an amazing job), handpicked the plants himself, and oversaw the installation.  At first we balked a bit at the price, but now that the job is complete, it is worth every penny.  We're planning to have him come back in the spring and do some more design work for some additional areas.  We couldn't be happier with the end result -- the design is beautiful, timeless, and user friendly.  Highly, highly recommend.

Ryan and his team helped turn our backyard/urban hellscape into a fantastic and budget-friendly cottage garden. From the moment I first reached out to him on the phone to the moment the last plant was thoughtfully planted, Ryan proved to be one of the most patient and conscientious people I've had the opportunity to work with in DC. We were one of those annoying couples who think they know what they want from the outset and then go veering down the proverbial path of indecision and second-guessing. All the while, however, Ryan and his colleagues remained patient and respectful as they guided us through the project. Ryan Moody is a thoughtful and talented Landscape Architect who treats his clients with honesty and integrity. I can't recommend Ryan and his team enough. Five stars.

...I can't recommend Ryan and his team highly enough. We had just bought our condo and were getting a bit jaded from working with vendors whom we felt were constantly trying to upsell us. So it was very refreshing to come across Ryan who was incredibly trustworthy, reliable, and courteous, and who worked hard to stay within our budget. And most importantly, he has a great eye for design as well as functionality; he transformed our 400 sf urban terrace into a sleek, modern space complete with sophisticated uplighting for the planters (he installed the lighting himself which saved us from having to hire an electrician), and hidden storage for bikes and extra seating. He also chose the hardiest plants possible as my husband and I have the opposite of a green thumb. A year later, I'm happy to report that the trees are thriving despite our not watering them as much as we should, and Ryan continues to be very responsive and helpful should any minor issues arise. Overall, two thumbs up for Moody Landscape Architecture!

My husband and I are architects that own a small architecture firm. We have collaborated on several projects with Moody Landscape Architecture, and we hired them for our own project. They are always a pleasure to work with, and their work is excellent. We look forward to continuing our relationship with them in the future. On our own project they really helped us flesh out our ideas, while introducing other ideas that we had not envisioned. From concepts to planting they helped transform our underutilized yard into a series of beautifully landscaped outdoor spaces.

I've recommended Ryan to three residential clients and one commercial client, all of whom hired them and were very satisfied in every way with the results. The design work is great and very well communicated, the advise is very practical, and the follow through and installation supervision top notch. I will continue to recommend Moody with confidence.

Moody Landscape Architecture designed a hardscape garden in our small, walled-in center city townhouse's rear yard, replacing a rat-infested jungle. The design was brilliant, the selection of materials (e.g., planters) inspired and the choice and installation of plantings (trees, flowers, shrubs) superb. Ryan Moody provided wise counsel and creative solutions, was thoroughly knowledgeable about resources for both architectural elements and plantings and -- perhaps above all -- was one of the best listeners we've encountered in our many years of working with designers, architects and builders. We ended up with the garden that perfectly suited our tastes and needs, not an architect's preconceived notion of what a "good" garden might be. The entire experience -- the process and the result -- was gratifying. These folks are talented, responsive and a joy to work with in all respects.

MLA was hired to completely re-do our back yard in our Capitol Hill row house. They did a wonderful job. They were prompt, courteous, and provided thoughtful and creative concepts. They followed through with meticulous drawings, recommended contractors, and provided supervisory service when necessary. Highly recommended!

Kate, from Moody Landscape Architecture, helped me with the design and installation of a small front yard and a Pennsylvania bluestone backyard with a wall of woolly pockets. She was amazingly knowledgeable about plant types and what will work in certain sun and soil conditions. Her eye for design and ability to adapt to your own taste are superb. She is able to work well within size and budget restraints. On top of all that, she’s really fun to work with! Highly recommended.

We had a wonderful experience working with Ryan Moody on our backyard renovation (Spring 2013); he was incredibly easy going and came to the table with exciting ideas. Also, very respectful of our budget, he offered many ideas for containing costs. I would highly recommend him and will look forward to using him again in our new home.

Ryan Moody transformed our small and neglected yard into a beautiful outdoor living space. He was a pleasure to work with: patient, creative, professional. We have already gotten more use and pleasure from this new space than the 20 years previous when the yard basically served as a big playground for our dog. The project went through several revisions to get the cost down and Ryan was so helpful with suggesting where we could save without compromising the end result. All deadlines were met.

Ryan Moody was a delight to work with throughout the process of transforming my back yard from a field of weeds and concrete to a gorgeous, dog-friendly garden with bluestone patio and brick paths. When we initially talked, I gave Ryan a practical and aesthetic wish-list, which he helped me tailor to the reality of the site and my budget. The final design truly accomplished everything I had hoped for, from solving drainage problems to improving accessibility to providing a lush and colorful outdoor space as an extension of my house. We worked through three iterations of the design, and Ryan was patient, quick, and clear in his communications at all stages. Ryan coordinated construction and planting with the landscape contractors, Redux Garden and Home, tweaking the design as needed, and also helped sequence the landscape work with other exterior improvements. The whole project came in on budget and a little ahead of schedule, and it is gorgeous! What more could one ask? I recommend Moody Landscape Architecture without hesitation.

Moody Landscape Architecture helped with a full renovation of our back yard following a large interior renovation. They were very mindful of our budget, yet provided several alternative concepts based on extensive research into what we like, eg by using pictures from Houzz. It helped us choose an original solution for large BBQs in our small back yard, including a built-in spacious grill and beautiful plants that work in that limited space. Ryan and Kate were very hands on during the entire project, which included supervising other contractors (for bricks, electricity etc). We are very happy with the end product and love spending time in our back yard. We highly recommend Moody Landscape Architecture. In additional to the high quality professional job, they were very pleasant and easy to work with and have been nice enough to check on our plants on a yearly basis, by their own initiative. It shows that they care about their work even after a project is completed.
